Born in Jerusalem to a Haredi family. Her mother is novelist Chana Bat-Shachar and her father is a head of a Yeshiva. 

Over the course of the years, she detached herself from the Haredi way of life, and made new connections that enable her to live freely and create theatre. Orian holds a B.Ed. in theatre directing and teaching (summa cum laude) from Seminar HaKibbutzim, and a M.A. from the Program for Performance Research in the Theatre and the Performing Arts at Tel Aviv University.

Orian creates theatre via research processes; she constructs and deconstructs narratives through dialogue with canonical texts. She creates theatre for both young and adult audiences, while aspiring to unsettle the boundaries between them. She developed an artistic, experimental and innovative children's theatre. In Beit Avi Chai in Jerusalem, she created several series of plays that garnered a steady following of children and their parents. Furthermore, she directed plays in collaboration with various establishments, such as: New Spirit, HaMiffal, the Playwrights Project in Tzavta, The Jerusalem Biblical Zoo, Hazira – Performance Art Arena, and the Municipality of Jerusalem.

She founded and led various incubator programs in the fields of culture and performance. Among those are the Paideia Project-Incubator, a program for project development in European Jewish culture at the Paideia Institute in Stockholm, and a program for storytellers at Beit Midrash Elul, Jerusalem.

Orian is also active as a dramaturg and artistic counselor, teaches directing and theatrical creation in Nissan Nativ Acting Studio Jerusalem and Emunah College, and holds master classes in the Department for Theatre Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.         

Orian is married to theatre scholar Yair Lipshitz, and together they have two sons who study in a free, democratic school.
